BROOKLYN, NY - Triskelion Arts is thrilled to announces its 2025 Spring Performance Season, highlighting the platforms and creative visions that shape the its dynamic community.
Trisk is proud to continue its collaboration with Beyond the Black Box, presenting two exciting events: Sunday Service (February) and, in partnership with KEIGWIN + COMPANY & TRISKELION ARTS, The BBB Block Party (May).
Returning for its fifth year, Synthesis: A Guest Curation by Miz Jade (March) brings the energy and artistry of nightlife to the Trisk stage. The season also includes the highly anticipated premiere of an evening-length work by Chloe London and SPLIT BILL #44, featuring new works by Valentina Baché and Kanon Sugino.
Trisk's spring season support three resident artists and their culminating premieres: Kashia Kancey (March), the 2025 Trisk Fellow, Tushrik Fredericks (May), 2025 Production Resident Artist, Joy-Marie Thompson (June), 2025 Artist-in-Residence.
Throughout the Spring 2025 Season, each artist brings their bold, authentic vision to life, embodying Trisk’s mission to foster a thriving ecosystem where individuality and unique narratives shine.

February is Black History Month, and your cousins at Beyond the Black Box are issuing a CALL TO ACTION—join us on Sunday, February 23rd as we celebrate the close of Black History Month!
This is an opportunity for us to talk, reconnect, commune, and create more community together. Doors open at 3 PM, inviting you to immerse yourself in an unforgettable afternoon featuring our signature community mural, revitalizing breathwork and meditation, expertly curated cocktails, and, of course, FREE chicken and biscuit bites! While the main event concludes at 5 PM, we encourage you to stick around and dance the evening away with us—stay as long as your heart desires.
This season, BBB wants to celebrate you. We're here to honor your presence and give you your flowers while you're here, as a token of love and appreciation. Mark your calendars: Sunday, February 23rd, from 3–5 PM. It’s the perfect time to soak in those Sunday vibes—late enough to relax, but early enough to prep for Monday.

Beyond the Black Box (BBB) is an arts and cultural organization dedicated to amplifying Black voices, fostering connections, and educating through immersive experiences. Our mission is to celebrate, honor, and uplift the Black dance community by creating supportive spaces for artists to thrive. Motivated by a desire to address the lack of representation and support we encountered in our own journeys, we are committed to promoting inclusiveness, fairness, and visibility in the dance world.
BBB achieves its mission by producing dynamic multidisciplinary works, including live dance productions, community engagement initiatives, mentorship programs, and educational opportunities. Our approach seamlessly weaves together elements of popular culture with boundless enthusiasm, showcasing the remarkable accomplishments of our community.
With your support, BBB will continue to empower Black dancers and artists who champion social and political principles of inclusivity, fairness, and visibility, ultimately enriching the cultural tapestry of our community. Together, we will create a brighter future where Black voices are celebrated and heard through the transformative power of the arts.

KASHIA KANCEY
The Closties Variety Hour, is a show that surrounds themes of reminiscence, mystery, and surreality. It consists of individual anecdotes shared amongst friends, focusing on stories that have impacted us, shaping the way in which we think, feel, and communicate. During this piece, we transport and transform, bringing our memories to life through storytelling, performance, song, and a little bit of magic. This work features my fabulous collaborators who bring so much character and life to the show, Khandis Merritt, Jailyn Wiley, and Channce Willams.
Kashia Kancey is a Miami-born performer and choreographer, who earned her BFA in Dance from New World School of the Arts. Some of her choreographic history includes having work presented at Movement Research at Judson Church, CreateART Performance, and Triskelion Arts. Kashia has performed in spaces like South-Miami Dade Cultural Arts Center, Dance Place DC, the American Dance Festival, The Yard, and New York Live Arts. She has danced with Rosie Herrera Dance Theatre, Adele Myers and Dancers, and Abby Z and the New Utility. Kashia has also worked with artists like Marcella Lewis, Annie-B Parson, Tendayi Kuumba, and Donna Uchizono. Kashia was most recently a performing apprentice with Urban Bush Women and is a company member with David Dorfman Dance. She was a Gallim Moving Artist in Residence in 2023 and is a 2024 Baryshnikov Arts Center residency recipient. Kashia is elated to be the 2025 Triskelion Arts Fellow!

The Trisk Fellowship is the cornerstone of our residency programs. This prestigious fellowship grants an artist an entire year to fully explore their creative vision, offering sponsored studio access and substantial financial support. Fellows receive extensive technical and theatrical design support and have opportunities for showings and open rehearsals, fostering community engagement and behind-the-scenes access. At the conclusion of their transformative year, fellows get the chance to share their artistic journey through a performance series in our theater. The Trisk Fellowship reflects our commitment to nurturing artistic growth by providing time, resources, and support for artists to realize their visions in their most impactful form.

SYNTHESIS
GUEST CURATED BY MIZ JADE
Synthesis is a theatrical variety show presenting nightlife performers in the queer community and celebrating an array of disciplines and identities. This incredible evening of music, drag, and burlesque carves out space for traditionally marginalized performers to nurture and grow their craft. Synthesis aims to allow artists to present their work in an elevated environment with more technical support, enabling a grander vision to come to life.
Miz Jade is a Black-Trans Gender Fluid Drag performer, event host, and professional dancer who’s here to steal your heart and your spotlight. Known for her teaching, activism, and a wit so sharp it could cut glass, she’s guaranteed to leave you gagging and ready to party. Miz Jade is a NYC sensation, often described as fierce, sensual, sophisticated, and full of surprises.
After dabbling in various art forms, Jade zeroed in on her true loves: performance and education. She honed her dance skills at the prestigious Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase and continues to sharpen her craft through endless workshops and intensives. As an interdisciplinary artist, she effortlessly blends her dance background with her nightlife antics, creating a performance style that’s truly one-of-a-kind.
While chasing her BFA in Dance, Miz Jade burst onto the New York nightlife scene, dazzling crowds by night and acing her classes by day. She moved to Brooklyn in 2012, cementing her status as one of NYC’s top entertainers. Competitions like So You Think You Can Drag, Little Miss Mierce, and MRS BK have only added to her trophy shelf and her ever-growing list of gigs.
Miz Jade has rubbed elbows and shared stages with the likes of Thorgy Thor, Sasha Velour, and Bob The Drag Queen. In 2019, she set sail on Ke$ha’s “Weird and Wonderful Rainbow Ride” and debuted in the drag opera, Chimera, alongside drag royalty Alexis Michelle and Desmond is Amazing. She even got a spotlight in Revry’s documentary series, Queens of Kings, which showcased her seamless dance and drag duality.
A passionate advocate, Miz Jade is a proud reader for Drag Story Hour, inspiring children with her fabulousness and promoting a message of inclusivity and diversity. She’s also the dazzling face of ‘The Real Ms Information,’ a national campaign with Gay Men’s Health Crisis and FCB Health Network, championing COVID vaccination awareness in the LGBTQ+ community.
With nominations for ‘Best Dance Performer’ at the Glam Awards and ‘Queen Of The Year’ and ‘Best Performer’ at the Brooklyn Nightlife Awards, Miz Jade is not just a performer; she’s a force of nature. CHLOE LONDON
In this work, London investigates the idea of repurposing material from her past dances. A process that began as four individual solo works slowly developed into a group piece exploring what happens when both new and previously-performed movements and concepts are put into the same space, combined, built upon, and transformed. The cast represents collaborators that have worked with London for almost a decade to those that are entering her process for the first time.
This dance is performed by Tim Bendernagel, Miranda Lawson, Mia Martelli, and Maddy Sher with original sound composed by Ryan Wolfe.
Chloe London is a choreographer, performer, and teacher. She received her MFA in Performance & Choreography from Smith College and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance at Mount Holyoke College. Her own choreography has been presented by Movement Research at the Judson Church, Dixon Place, Triskelion Arts, School of Contemporary Dance and Thought, and Battery Park Dance Festival. She was a 2022 ARC Artist in Residence at A.P.E. Gallery (Northampton, MA) and a 2023 Artist in Residence at Bearnstow (Mount Vernon, ME). She currently dances for Bebe Miller Company, Barbie Diewald, and Alex Davis. Chloe is thrilled to be a Trisk Presents artist in the Spring 2025 season.

VALENTINA BACHE
KANON SUGINO
Valentina Baché Rodríguez (they/them) was born and raised in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. At 15, they skipped high school and moved to Massachusetts to attend Bard College at Simon's Rock. Seeking more dance and a desire to be seen, they moved to NYC and graduated with a BA in Dance from Hunter College in 2020. Their works have been featured in venues across New York, including Movement Research at Judson Church, the Kaye Playhouse, BK Art Haus, the NY Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center, Recess, Chelsea Factory, and Dixon Place. They also teach at Performance Space NY. Valentina is the 2024 recipient of Gallim's Moving Artist Residency. They’ve performed with "The Young Boy Dancing Group," Monica Mirabile, and Company Redacted. Additionally, Valentina is developing the hand-woven art brand "Raspaditos." Their work explores ancestral bodily archives and transformative energies, showcasing the power of pleasure, joy, and unbound honesty.

Kanon Sugino (she/her) is a Japanese American dancer/choreographer born and raised in New York. After attending Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and graduating Summa Cum Laude from Purchase College, SUNY with a BFA in Dance and a BA in Arts Management, she joined Nimbus Dance as a company dancer. She is now working with Doug Varone and Dancers and MICHIYAYA Dance. She has performed works by Bill T. Jones, Peter Chu, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, and more. As a choreographer, she has presented work at the We Belong Here: AAPI Festival, a split bill performance at Arts On Site, and self-curated shows at the Puffin Room Art Gallery and the Triskelion Theater. In 2024, Kanon was awarded Asian American Arts Alliance's Jadin Wong Fellowship in Dance. Her works mainly focus on the uplifting of marginalized voices and the celebration of minority groups and their cultures.

't i l i n f i n i t i', a dreamlike work that explores the variety of black and brown fantasies and utopias through diverse and multi-dimensional physical expressions of becoming, flourishing, shedding and primal unity.
Tushrik Fredericks (he/him), recipient of the Princess Grace Award (Chris Hellman dance honor), nominated by TRIBE (Founding artistic director, Shamel Pitts) in 2021 is originally from Johannesburg, South Africa. Growing up he found himself drawn towards ‘KRUMPING‘. He graduated from the Peridance Certificate Program in NYC in June 2015 and has had the opportunity to work with Ate9 dANCEcOMPANY (Danielle Agami, Artistic Director), Sidra Bell Dance New York (Sidra Bell, Artistic Director) and UNA Productions (Chuck Wilt). Fredericks was an assistant lecturer to Sidra Bell at The University of the Arts Philadelphia for Sophomore students (2016-2018). In May 2021 Fredericks received 3rd prize for dance at the SoloTanz Festival in Stuttgart for his first rendition of his self-choreographed solo '(territory) of the heart' and in May 2023 he showcased the completed rendition of the solo at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, NY. Fredericks also received the Baryshnikov Arts Open Fall 2023 residency for a co-choreographed duet with Rebecca Margolick, the recipient of the 2024 Princess Grace Special Projects Grant Award and a 2025 CPR – Center for Performance Research artist in residence.

Featuring JoyBoy da Clown, performed and created by Joy-Marie Thompson, Farewell My Fool is a dance theater/performance art piece utilizes clowning and humor to interrogate the legacy of exploitation in performance, the failures of ambition, respectability politics, and self-realization.
Joy-Marie Thompson is a performing artist, writer, and educator from Pittsburgh, PA. As a performer, they have worked with choreographers such as Sidra Bell, Staycee Pearl, Shamel Pitts, Stephanie Batten Bland, Maxine Doyle, and Damani Pompey. They have appeared in The Mckittrick Hotel’s Sleep No More, at The Public Theater for Erika Dickerson-Despenza’s shadow/land, The Metropolitan Opera’s El Niño and Aida and Geoff Sobelle’s HOME. Their commercial credits include performing in music videos for Chloe Flower and The Kills. Their alter ego, JOYBOY has performed dance comedy shows at Triskelion Arts and 3 Dollar Bill. As an educator, Joy-Marie has taught improvisation and contemporary dance as an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Purchase’s Conservatory of Dance and pilates at Harlem Pilates, Chelsea Piers Fitness, and Kinected. Their writing has been published by thINKingDANCE and Imagining: A Gibney Journal.

The Trisk Artist-in-Residence program offers 150 studio hours over six months, dedicating extensive time to explore, experiment, and delve deep into the artistic vision. Throughout this journey, the Artist-in-Residence receives dedicated support from our technical, administrative, and marketing teams, ensuring the creative process is nurtured and amplified. The residency culminates in a three-evening performance run in the Trisk Theater.

What's Behind Our Ticketing Tiers?
We are thrilled to launch our new tiered ticketing, crafted to prioritize maximum compensation for our incredible artists, fair wages for our production team, and inclusive ticket prices for all our performances. This structure also addresses the financial challenges of producing live performances in NYC by aligning ticket costs more closely with the actual, unsubsidized value of each seat. Our ticket options now range from $17 to $50. Regardless of the ticket price, every attendee will enjoy the same magical experience.
