OCTOBER 2, 6:30PM & 8PM
NVA & GUESTS
CRY WOLF (PHASE ONE)

Get a first look at phase one of NVA & Guests' new project. These performances offer a sneak peek into a larger concept still in development. Experience the creative exploration that will shape the final, complete production. Don’t miss your chance to witness the first phase of this groundbreaking work!

"Cry Wolf" is a dance-theater production that interlaces the urgency of climate change awareness with the classic narrative of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." The project transforms the familiar fable into a contemporary allegory about the dangers of ignoring repeated warnings, both environmental and ethical. Through a blend of highly physical choreography, text, and direct audience interaction, the show challenges spectators to discern truth from deception amidst a flood of information. Utilizing humor, "Cry Wolf" explores themes of responsibility, misinformation, and communal consequence, making it a poignant commentary on the state of our world's climate discourse and democratic engagement. NVA & Guests is excited to present "phase one" of "Cry Wolf" at Triskelion Arts this October!

Cry Wolf was created with the support of a 2024-25 CUNY Dance Initiative Residency at Gerald W. Lynch Theater At John Jay College; Triskelion Arts; and Brooklyn Arts Council.

OCTOBER 24-26, 8PM
[RE]DEFINING [SPACE]
A PERFORMANCE SERIES CURATED BY ARANTXA ARAUJO & SARA KOSTIC

Today the significance of intimate, public, and digital spaces extends beyond their physical or digital boundaries. The way we construct and utilize these spaces has a profound influence on our mental and physical well-being, our perception of reality, and our perception and experience of ‘freedom’. Araujo and Kostic want to examine the loss of space for sub-cultures under the influence and power of the consumer culture and mass media. When is content a positive addition and when is it a pollution?

"[RE]defining[SPACE]" invites us to critically examine how our perception of reality is shaped by the spaces we inhabit. By challenging the boundaries between intimate, public, and digital spaces, we question the existing power structures that reinforce inequality and exclusion. Through artistic interventions, we seek to disrupt the status quo and envision a future where spaces are designed to promote social cohesion, equity, and well-being.

[RE]defining [SPACE] is an immersive three-day performance series inviting audiences to reflect on the transformative power of space and envision alternative possibilities. Each night of the event serves as a platform for artists to explore the intersection of space, evolving identities, and well-being through various artistic disciplines.

TUSHRIK FREDERICKS & REBECCA MARGOLICK
TO BEGIN WITH NO END.

Using spirituality as a vessel of connection and the common denominator between two different yet similar religions; empathy, trust and intimacy is shared within the multitudes of relationships that we embody with each other. To release into the complexities gives us access to be with each other and to see from the other side.

"And now our bodies knew bodies,
They danced in unison, they got tired
They found rest without darkness Our
bodies, the performers of labor and care
could feel and breathe together Our bodies
now weren’t afraid of a sunset."

LAVY /VERBAL ANIMAL
OH WHAT A DRAG TO BE IN DRAG

Glistening bodies into communion, I say to you. In sweat. In sonic hypnosis. OH WHAT A DRAG TO BE IN DRAG, surrenders itself into a hamster wheel of success, allure, and failed performance. Through extracting consumerist hunger, performers journey through an oblivion of smeared eyeliner, 1 dance belt, and two pairs of bedazzled pantyhose. In an attempt to outperform ourselves, this work serves as a beacon for personal potential, and further, collective expansion.

Lavy is a gender queer, New York City based, choreographic dance artist. Graduating with their BFA in dance from Marymount Manhattan College, their performance credits include works by Kyle Abraham, Andrea Miller, Jenn Freeman, and Nicole Von Arx. In 2021, Lavy founded VERBAL ANIMAL, a cohort of queer multidisciplinary collaborators. Following, Lavy’s work has been presented at the 14th St Y, WAXworks, TADA! Theater, 3 Dollar Bill, Laguardia Performing Arts Center and Triskelion Arts. Additionally, Lavy has received space residencies from MOtiVE Brooklyn and the international choreographic residency at Art Omi. Most recently, Lavy received a commission from Mare Nostrum Elements as a returning choreographer to premiere a new evening length work at Laguardia Performing Arts Center in February of 2024. Currently, Lavy is a Co-Producer for the NY show, Kiss My Face, while also performing and collaborating with NVA & Guests.
