TRISK PRESENTS… A Guest Curation by Beyond the Black Box

September 6, 2023
BROOKLYN, NY -- Triskelion Arts is honored to present The “Black Black Black” Week, a Guest Curation by Beyond the Black Box happening in the Trisk Theater from September 20-23, 2023. Trisk’s Guest Curation platform offers curators the space to design multi-artist events, and highlight perspectives, mediums, and styles they believe deserve time in the limelight. Beyond the Black Box (BBB) is an arts and cultural organization that amplifies black voices by building connections and educating people through experiences. Their curation, The “Black Black Black” Week, is a gathering of dancers, choreographers, and multidisciplinary artists.

Doors open at 6pm for you to experience: an active photo booth, dominoes and card games, self-made jewelry, shea butter whipping, curated cocktails, soul food, and the BBB signature community mural. At 730pm performances will commence with a guided breath work ceremony led by an African Drummer. On September 20 & 21 there will be performances by duendita, Dorchel&Hakeem, and Jada Jenai choreographed by Claude CJ Johnson. On September 22 & 23 Kashia Kancey, Lamb, and Ashley Pierre-Louis will be performing. The BBB Team will close out every evening with an original work. The week’s dress code is blaxploitation; attendees are requested to come dressed in their best interpretation of the 1970 Pam Grier, bad a** aesthetic!

A note from the BBB team: We are striving to connect with our community on a deeper level and embody the unity witnessed by the Black Power movement in the 70s. By creating an environment rooted in support, love, and safety— we want to acknowledge that while we are all individuals, we are all deeply connected. We Are One. Welcome to the Beyond the Black Box family!

Beyond the Black Box (BBB) is an arts and cultural organization that amplifies black voices by building connections and educating people through experiences. We are a group of black dancers dedicated to celebrating, honoring, and healing the black dance community. We felt a lack of support and representation in the dance world when we were young, which motivated us to deliberately build the spaces our younger selves would thrive in. We encourage artists who uphold and advance the social and political principles of inclusiveness, fairness, and visibility. BBB celebrates and shares the accomplishments of our community by producing creative multidisciplinary works, such as live dance productions, community work, mentorship, and education that incorporate popular culture and are laced with enthusiasm.
