TRANSVERBERATION; the act of beating, striking, or piercing through.
Interchangeably known as Religious Ecstasy, this tradition within Judeo-Christian mysticism recounts the experience of a subject receiving “the love of God”. It is described as an innate act of violence, penetrating its entrants through their heart in a fiery display. Though traumatic in nature, recipients of this endeavor also delight in its gratification… It is ecstasy in the presence of agony, the behavioral motivations of pain and pleasure becoming one.
TRANSVERBERATION by August & Company is a movement-based rendering of this consecrated hedonism; anguish held with reverence, arousal begotten by torment.
“The pain was so great, that it made me moan; and yet so surpassing was the sweetness of this excessive pain, that I could not wish to be rid of it.” - St. Teresa de Ávila (c. 1559)

Small:2Big, the end of theory. is an innovative and dynamic project that masterfully blends sound and movement to create a rich, immersive experience. Using carefully curated materials and textures, the project boldly explores complex and existential themes such as willpower, guilt, blame, passion, aversion, and the enduring impact of trauma and memory. With a keen eye for storytelling and a bold artistic vision, "Small:2Big" fearlessly charts new territory, breaking down barriers and challenging conventional notions of what is possible. This project demands attention and respect, and we are committed to representing the seemingly impossible in a way that is both powerful and accessible to all.

The Fear Project is a compelling dance theatre stage work, where dancers embark on a profound exploration of Fear, Conflict, Identity, and Self-Love. Playfulness and darkness intertwine, creating an emotional landscape that spans from sheer happiness to gripping fear. Audience participation blurs the boundaries, engaging viewers mentally and physically, fostering a deep connection to the themes explored. Composer Benjamin Louis Brody's ethereal music of his album “Floating into Infinity” enhances the journey, seamlessly blending with the dancers' movements. Prepare for a transformative experience as this immersive performance unravels the depths of human emotion.

TEETH is a dance and theater work that takes a classroom of young students on a journey to explore their identities, experiences, and roles in shaping the United States of America during its quest for independence at the end of the 18th century.
During their Curriculum Study Unit on George Washington, Ona, William, Giles, and Margaret are visited by a Griot Tooth Fairy. They are transported in time where they see their connections to the Battle of Trenton, the various communities within the 13 colonies, as well as their close relationships with Martha and George Washington. As the first student loses his loose tooth, the Griot Tooth Fairy says…
Within these molars lie the history
Of those who created this story
There will be no chapters written about them
No selfies on coins
No statues carved from the earth
No documentation of their birth
But their spirit will be felt
Through their heart-felt speech
A bond despite the bonds
A connection through teeth
These children embody their past as former enslaved members on Mount Vernon, but more importantly see their past selves as humans who achieved greatness in building community despite their enslavement. Giles, one of the few people who traveled all 13 colonies, helped keep families connected, William Lee, crossed the Delaware to help win the war, Ona Judge, defied her enslavers, (The Washingtons) escaping bondage to start a new life.
The voices of these particular people and so many others are heard within Washington’s many speeches. Their teeth were purchased and fashioned as dentures for Washington so that he could deliver addresses to the nation. This story focuses on their impact on our democracy.

Horses full of steam deconstructs to reimagine visual and topical elements from the almost forgotten 1932 ballet-symphony, H.P. (Horse Power), with music by Carlos Chávez, designs by Diego Rivera, and choreography by Catherine Littlefield. Adopting the ballet's original 4-episode structure, the performance explores the hybridity of Pan-American culture through a magical realist lens.

Portrait of myself as a Yūrei' is a folktale that wanders into the afterlife of Japanese American Incarceration during World War II. It brings to life yūrei, Japanese female ghosts drunk on hatred, sorrow, revenge, and rage with wild long and limp hands broken at the wrists and calls upon their unapologetic chaos to surface emotions about the camps rarely expressed in Japanese American families.
The US has entered the stage of Japanese American Incarceration that writer and poet Brandon Shimoda calls “the ruins.” The camps are no longer open, the generations who lived through them are getting older or have passed, and many of the sites themselves are in ruins. Kimiko’s generation lives in the afterlife of the camps and like the yūrei can access powerful emotions in the afterlife, Kimiko questions what emotions she can access that the older generations weren’t afforded. This is a ghost story that is as much about the future as it is about the past.

With performance by South African dance artist Tushrik Fredericks who is a collaborative artist with TRIBE (founding artistic director, Shamel Pitts) and soundscape by multidisciplinary artist TT Britt, (territory) of the heart creates a movement journey parallel to a live sonic journey that digs deeper into physicalizing the experience of the heart - its grapple with identity, humanitarian aspects and the endless potential that lies within one's heart and humanity to soar, challenge and find serenity.

The Boof Quadrille is a loving spoof, pastiche, and homage to the grand social dances of the Gilded Age. Utilizing the structures of social dances such as the waltz, the quadrille, the tango, the polka, and contemporary dance-making modalities and vocabularies, The Boof Quadrille is a latter-day cotillion where desire, jealousy, and one-upmanship are on full display. The performers weave, bob, and sashay their way around the stages as alliances are forged and shattered, reputations are ruined, and bitter rivalries are reconciled, all in the ultimate quest to become the Belle of the Ball.

GLUE X TRISK
FULLY SUBSIDIZED Peer-to-peer learning in an investigative and creation-based workshop for movement artists in the professional field. GLUE was formed with the belief that artists need time to stumble around in the wilderness of experimentation without agenda, with curiosity and openness to discovery, and (importantly) amidst a cohort of artists sharing and processing the work at hand.
A curated series of vendors and live performances to highlight, uplift, and honor the beauty and cultural influence of the Black dance community. In the heart of Greenpoint, where representation is scarce, Beyond the Black Box is connecting the community, even for a day, and showcasing the beauty and versatility of Black art, beyond the black box theater.

Freeskewl X Trisk - Accessible, sliding scale hybrid class series on Tuesday mornings at Trisk with teachers such as Jennifer Nugent, J. Bouey, Maria Bauman, Ryan Yamauchi, Jessie Young, Anh Vo, Johnnie Cruise Mercer, Ogemdi Ude, Nadia Issa, and more!
GLUE X Trisk - Nicole Wolcott and Trisk are excited to announce a new platform supporting experienced movement-based artists in career development. GLUE is a fully subsidized workshop for the experienced movement artist who craves experimenting with new ideas in their research with an exchange of methodology, dialogue, and ensemble performance practice. We are launching GLUE with a five-day gathering where choreographers, makers, improvisers share their process and facilitate experimentation with their methodology in an extended studio practice. Simultaneously we will offer a rigorous and playful exploration of the possibilities of improvisation as a performing art form, a tool for composition, and as a studio practice. GLUE was formed with the belief that artists need time to stumble around in the wilderness of experimentation without agenda, with curiosity and openness to discovery, and (importantly) amidst a cohort of artists sharing and processing the work at hand.
