With "Nuit blanche", Butoh choreographer Vangeline and contemporary choreographer Eva Perrotta present a new evocative body of work. Both artists were born in France and create dances aspiring towards profundity, always looking to broaden and enrich the use of Dance. The culminating effect is mesmerizing and stunningly dramatic.

Vangeline Theater fuses the traditions of Butoh dance (characterized by exaggerated, even grotesque, isometric movement) with an aesthetic inspired by glammed-out science-fiction movies like Blade Runner. In her work, Vangeline combines bio-energetic movement, contemporary dance and Japanese Butoh. She is the artistic director of the Vangeline Theater, a dance company firmly rooted in the tradition of Japanese Butoh while carrying it into the 21st century.

Classes and Workshops at Triskelion

Poi Phase II
Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of simple poi moves. Over a series of 10 classes, we will learn additional poi moves, transitions, and combinations. We will begin to explore partner poi, improvisation, and performance skills. Class will include warm-up and cool-down as well as plenty of opportunity for questions and experimentation. We will spin and move to a variety of music to encourage different styles and flow. The last class, which will take place on a nearby Williamsburg rooftop, will review basic fire safety methods and will include the opportunity to light up (no fire will take place at Triskelion studios).

The class is $180 for the 10-week session. A payment of $90 via Google Checkout will confirm your enrollment (I will send you an invoice when you register). The remaining balance can be paid on the first day of class.

Mondays 6:30-8:00pm
Sept 8 - Nov 10

Tuesdays 7:00-8:30pm
Sept 9 – Nov 11

Triskelion Studios, 3rd Floor, Studio B
118 N. 11th St. between Berry and Wythe, Brooklyn
L train to Bedford

"Claire's class is fantastic. I felt I was able to move at exactly the pace I needed. On days when I was lost she gave me just the nudging I needed to get it. On days when I was ahead she gave me lots of encouragement to keep going further. I ended the class with the skills to really spin fire! There was also a great emphasis on safety which takes the issue of 'OW! My arm!' out of the picture. Thank for the sexy skill Claire!"
-Scott Nath

"The Poi II class takes all the basics learned in Poi I and combines them for more advanced tricks. Learning transitions between tricks is also a big and important part of the class. I even rearranged my summer travels to be here for Poi class. Poi II really took my skills to the next level and I now feel like I can show off while spinning fire instead of just hoping I don't burn myself. It is really worth it!"

Poi Phase III
Students are expected to have a working knowledge of basic poi moves. Over a series of 10 classes, we will learn additional poi moves, transitions, and combinations. We will deepen our concept of flowers, work on behind the back moves, explore isolations, pendulums, and hyperloops, add more stalls to our repertoire, and more. We will change the rhythm of many of our moves, look at how to conceptualize new moves, and work on adding movement and flow into our improv work as well as how to plan a routine. The last class will be a fire class on a nearby Williamsburg rooftop (no fire will take place at Triskelion studios).

The class is $200 for the 10-week session. A payment of $100 via Google Checkout will confirm your enrollment (I will send you an invoice when you register). The remaining balance can be paid on the first day of class.

Tuesdays 5:30-7:00pm
Sept 9 – Nov 11
Triskelion Studios, 3rd Floor, Studio B

Looking forward to spinning with everyone!

Trisha McBride's unique style of Belly Dance is a blend of American Tribal Style, Cabaret, Indian, Flamenco, and an influence of her first love, Break Dancing. This blend of different dance forms has been collected, and refined for the past 13 years. Giving her a recipe for an alluring dance both exciting to watch, and learn. Trisha began her adventures in Belly Dancing in 1996. Starting out at Kismet dance studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. That same year she witnessed Carolena Nericcio, of Fat Chance Belly Dance on stage at the Utah Annual Belly Dancing Festival. Falling in love with American Tribal Style Belly Dance, she moved to San Francisco, California to study with Fat Chance, and Jill Parker of Ultra Gypsy. The combination of studying San Francisco's Tribal Belly Dance style, and Salt Lake's Cabaret style, Trisha developed a dynamic repertoire of dance movements and an ultimate addiction to belly dance. In 2002 she joined Azure (an ATS San Francisco Troupe). Then in 2004 the "wander " kicked in for this gypsy style dancer, as she found herself living, and teaching belly dance in New York City. Her teaching philosophy is "to be a good teacher, you must be a good student," as she seeks the best teachers to sharpen her skills. Taking workshops with Rachel Brice, and Dalia Carella. Trisha includes meditations, and yoga to her teaching. Performing is high light for her, andtaken very seriously as she finds it ritualistic, and uplifting. Trisha has performed extensively at different venues all over New York. She has enjoyed exploring the rich culture that the New York Belly Dancing world has to offer. In the winter of 2006, she began studying the dumbek, with a world renowned virtuoso Raquy Danziger, and quickly developed "dumbek fever." Drumming is now a big part of Trisha's dance vocabulary, as she has found that studying Middle Eastern rhythm has improved her synchronicity with the timing of music to dance and dramatically enhanced her belly dance, and ziling skills.
